The Bushnell Chuck Adams archery range finder is a rangefinder that you will either love or hate. Some reviews gave this rangefinder a great review and claimed it worked well, was easy to use and highly recommended it. Other reviews painted a much different picture. The list of complaints were: It would only work intermittently (Give you a reading every other time you pushed the button); did not work in fog, snow, or rain; very poor light gathering capabilities; and was not dustproof or waterproof (dust or water collected on the inside of the lens); and needed a clear path to the target to get an accurate reading. Many did not recommend buying this rangefinder. Some were acquainted with other Bushnell rangefinders and were surprised at the poor performance of this rangefinder compared to the other Bushnell rangefinders. On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the highest) this rangefinder was either given a 1 or a 5, not much in-between. One highly rated review claimed not to have used it in poor visibility conditions. It appears from the reviews, if you use this rangefinder on clear bright sunshiny days you will love it. Elsewise, you will probably want a different rangefinder.
Whenever buying something new a person doesn’t really know what they’re getting until after the purchase. Much information is available on the web about products. While individuals have their individual preferences, an analysis of reviews can give some insight into a product. After studying some of the reviews about the Nikon Rifle Hunter 1000, one can expect it to be very easy-to-use. The true ballistic distance feature is great. It is a good rangefinder for the money, and performs well with other uses including golf. One of the major complaints was it didn’t range as far as expected. With one exception most claims were that it didn’t range past 500 yards on non-reflective targets and 600 yards on reflective targets. Other complaints included poor battery life, expensive battery, and lack of a built-in tripod connector. The Nikon rifle hundred 1000 has a feature that illuminates orange in low light. The reviews on this feature were mixed. Some liked it. Some didn’t. Most all who purchased it recommended buying the rangefinder. Conclusion, the Nikon Rifle Hunter 1000 will be easy-to-use, range a deer to 500 yards and illuminate an orange tint in low light, replace the battery a little more often, and give excellent true ballistic distance results.
I recall one of my many hunting trips. It was one of those trips where I wished I would have had a laser rangefinder. I began hiking early in the morning to get to where I hoped to find the elk. I was in luck. I spotted the elk across a small drainage from me. After watching them for a few minutes as they were feeding on the hillside a nice bull elk walked out into the open. I estimated the distance to be at least 300 yards. At that distance I usually hold the crosshairs on the top of the back of an elk to compensate for bullet drop. I fired my rifle and instantly could see dirt kicked up into the air on the hillside just over the top of the back of the elk. (Of course that elk didn’t waste any time getting out of there.) I felt embarrassed to realize I had grossly misjudged the distance. My rifle was sighted in to hit dead on at 200 yards and the bullet hit exactly where I was aiming. My aim was perfect and if I would have had a rangefinder that day my hunt would have been perfect too. A rangefinder can make all the difference in the success of your next hunt.

As every hunter knows, hunting is a challegne which requires a great deal of mental preparation, pin point accuracy, and precision in the field as well at the target range. When you are stalking an animal, you need to know how far it is to your animal and any brush that may be in the way, or other situations on every stalk where knowing yardage is important in choosing your route to the animal and your shot. There is nothing worse than having a clear shot and misjudging the distance and shooting over or under your target, having the trophy animal run off because you didn’t know the exact distance or hold over or under the animal. Using a range finder made for huning will give you the exact distance and will allow you to always hold at the right place and be more confident before you make that shot. This is going to lead to better shots and more kills and less loss of game. Knowing the proper distance is a lot of times the difference between a bad hunting experience and a trophy on the wall.
Bushnell makes combination rangefinder binoculars. They have two models, the Bushnell 10 x 42 fusion 1600 Arc rangefinder and the Bushnell 12 x 50 fusion 1600 arc rangefinder. The suggested retail price on these rangefinders is $1447.95 and $1609.95 respectively. With that kind of a price tag I like to know little bit about what I am buying. These rangefinders received good reviews and most who bought them recommended them. Even some of those who criticized certain features or functions that they did not like, still recommended buying the rangefinders. The optics received mixed reviews some claiming that they were excellent, while others felt they could be better. The rangefinder part received excellent reviews except in cases of extreme cold weather. One complaint was that it did not work below 14° F. (I don’t want work at that temperature either.) Also some complained about the battery drain at the colder temperatures and recommended carrying along extra batteries. One other complaint was the lack of the tripod mount. Some felt it was little difficult holding the binocular steady ranging objects at the farther distances. Overall the reviews were good and recommended the Bushnell rangefinder binoculars. If top-notch optics are your choice you might have to move up to the higher-priced brands like Zeiss and Swarovski.

Leupold & Stevens, the leader in American made riflescopes, has a line of RX laser rangefinders that may be the most technologically advanced laser rangefinders in the world at this writing. The RX line includes the entry level RX-I, medium priced RX-II, and the upscale RX-III and RX-IV. The RX-II, RX-III and RX-IV offer a feature that Leupold calls “True Ballistic Range.”
The RX-III combines laser rangefinding with digital electronics, an inclinometer, and ballistic algorithms to deliver True Balllistic Range, the ballistically equivalent range to the target (as well as the conventional line of sight distance measurement). It also includes a built-in thermometer, scan mode, low battery indicator, and Leupold’s Match 13 Reticle System. The unit is rated “waterproof,” not just “water resistant.”
It comes with a durable black nylon carrying case, neck strap, instruction manual, product registration card (the warrantee period is two years, an important factor), and an RX quick reference card. The quick reference card summaries the unit’s operation and fits in a pocket in the back of the carrying case so that it is easy to keep handy when needed. A much needed item, when learning how to use the sophisticated rangefinder.
Battery operated with a CR2 battery that will power the unit for about 2000 actuations and a ¼”X20 threaded tripod mounting socket. Also, there is a very brief summary of the operating instruction printed on the bottom of the unit’s rubber armored shell for ease of operation and for reference. Maximum range measurement is rated at 1200 yards on a reflective target, 800 yards on trees, and 700 yards on deer. Accuracy is +/- on yard (or meter).
Leupold has made every effort to help the hunters from getting out in the field with an RX-III and being unable to operate the unit. The 8X23mm viewing monocular has an adjustable eyepiece that can be focused to the user’s eye-a very much needed and important feature. This optic provides a superior view and will provide you the range of your target when needed most.
